Course Collector: Install and launch
Operational reference for install and launch in Course Collector.
Install and launch
- Install Python 3.10+ and FFmpeg, including
ffprobe. Both FFmpeg commands must be on PATH. FFmpeg downloads: https://ffmpeg.org/download.html - Extract this package to the capture computer.
- Open a terminal in this folder and run
python3 app.py(Windows:py -3 app.py). The local interface opens athttp://127.0.0.1:8876. You can also uselaunch.commandorlaunch.bat. - For a serial GPS receiver, install the optional dependency:
python3 -m pip install -r requirements-gps.txt. GPSd and a live GPS JSONL file need no extra Python packages.
The core application has no web-framework dependency. It binds only to this machine's loopback address. The browser supplies the interface; recording is performed by the local Python/FFmpeg application and continues independently of the browser tab.
Alternative port/storage: python3 app.py --port 8877 --data-dir /path/to/recordings. Recordings default to ~/.ga360-course-collector. Keep the application process running; closing the browser is safe, shutting down the application stops capture.
