Guided mapping workflow

  1. Launch launch.command (Mac) or launch.bat (Windows), rather than opening the HTML file. The local application opens at http://127.0.0.1:8876. Direct HTML previews include styling and launch instructions.
  2. Choose or create course: load a managed course from Sports Hub, or select Create new course and enter its name, notes and optional expected distance. New drafts work offline without a reference route.
  3. Check equipment: connect GPS and test the camera. The workspace shows what still needs attention before starting.
  4. Start mapping: start video, then select Mark course start at the actual starting location. It saves the GPS coordinate and video time, and establishes the zero-distance alignment landmark.
  5. Walk the route. The map draws collected GPS positions and automatically saved waypoints. Plotted distance reports cumulative GPS distance, separately from your position on the reference course. Movement must exceed the larger of 5 meters or the GPS accuracy estimate to add an automatic waypoint; fixes worse than 25 meters and implausible jumps are rejected. Filtering reduces jitter but can omit fine curves: treat GPS length as an estimate.
  6. Add waypoint preserves a specific GPS point. Save landmark separately links a reviewed course station and Moasure point ID to the video. The route estimate flags overlapping sections; use known station distances to identify the correct lap.
  7. At the actual course finish, select Mark course finish. The end coordinate and video time are saved, and automatic plotting stops. Existing courses use their reference length for finish alignment. New courses use the completed GPS plot; the optional expected distance remains separate. For a partial section, use station landmarks and stop the take without declaring the whole course finish.
  8. Finish the video take. Review each landmark with View frame or Set to video time, attach Moasure measurements, and save corrections before upload. Download plotted route exports the recorded LineString, start/finish points and waypoints as GeoJSON.
  9. Upload sends footage, GPS samples, course plot and measured export as a staff-review draft. Sports Hub shows the collected plot. It does not automatically replace the published route. Moasure provides measured elevation; GPS altitude is retained separately.

New-course upload first creates an unpublished course in Sports Hub, then attaches the capture. Creation requires an account owner who can create courses and a write-enabled API key without an existing-course-only restriction. A stable retry identity prevents duplicate creation. GPS plot distances are estimates; review geometry and Moasure elevation before publishing.
