PTZ and USB controllers: connect, arm and stop safely
Select the right camera, verify axes and use operator-taught presets.
Connect the target before moving
Select the camera you intend to control and confirm its live picture. Connect its supported PTZ protocol. In Production Truck, use Select PTZ and retry Connect controls if the target connection fails. Field Monitor and Single Camera Kiosk have their own camera/control setup. A USB controller being detected is not proof of a camera connection.
Verify the controller
- Choose the actual connected controller. Standard gamepad mappings apply only when the browser reports a standard layout; other joysticks may need manual axes and hold-button mapping.
- Start at a low pan/tilt and zoom speed. Confirm inversion and each axis using short movements while watching the picture.
- Center sticks and release the hold trigger after switching, reconnecting or pausing. Re-enable USB movement when required by the app.
- Use the hold-to-move control. Release it and verify movement stops. Keep the on-screen stop control available during testing.
- Save a physical preset only after framing the intended shot and confirming the store action. A suggested shot name does not create a stored camera position.
Field Monitor venue layouts
Choose a worship, stage, conference, classroom or meeting layout for suggested shot names. Existing saved physical positions are retained. Controller profiles fill mapping fields and disable USB movement until you deliberately enable and center controls again.
When the wrong camera moves
Stop immediately, disable USB and recheck target identity, sender binding and control address. Do not compensate by reversing inputs or recalling random presets. Verify independence of each numbered camera before resuming a live workflow.
