Intercom: start a crew room and communicate

Connect headsets, join the intended room, use role channels and test call acknowledgments.

Updated November 4, 2026 · 2 minute read

Prepare audio first

Use a headset when practical to prevent feedback. Select the intended microphone and headphones in Configuration. Check OS permission and microphone state. Start with a low listen volume and use Test tone separately from a microphone test: hearing a tone only confirms that playback path.

Join and verify a room

  1. Choose the supported Hub-hosted or invitation-based workflow for your crew. Keep room links and invitations private.
  2. Enter a clear crew name and production role. Verify the room/group is the one you intended.
  3. Choose push-to-talk or the supported talk mode. Confirm that a second crew member actually hears you, then confirm you can hear them.
  4. Choose the appropriate role channel. A private call is separate from group/role talk; accepted calls return to the prior role channel when ended.
  5. Test Call/attention and acknowledgment with the crew before the production. Make sure staff understand the difference between an alert and a voice connection.

Production presets

Worship, stage, conference, school, community and sports presets set local role/channel/audio preferences. Applying a preset keeps microphones muted; inspect the settings and deliberately enable speaking. Saved presets belong to that device, and the production role applies on the next join where stated.

If someone cannot hear

Check speaker mute, listening state, selected output and per-person controls before changing the room. Then check microphone permission, input selection and talk mode at the sender. A connected member card or audio tone does not prove speech is being transmitted.
