Race cameras and bib detection: capture, review and publish

Use configured camera sources and review observations before accepting results.

Updated November 4, 2026 · 1 minute read

Connect the correct cameras

Use Race Cameras or the timing application's supported camera workflow for its documented role. Configure each source by the supported NDI, SRT, RTSP or other connection type. Match the actual source with a readable name and the intended finish/split location.

Prepare detection

  1. Confirm a clear view, stable framing and enough bib visibility. Poor resolution, angle or motion blur can prevent useful observations.
  2. Connect the camera stream or analyze a finalized recording using the supported workflow.
  3. Confirm the relevant racers/bibs are enrolled, including the camera-only workflow if used.
  4. Review observation timestamps, identity/confidence and race association. A detected number is an observation, not automatically an official finish.
  5. Correct or reject questionable observations through the review tools before publishing.

Synchronize expectations

Camera arrival time, frame timestamp, RFID read time and official race time can differ. Verify alignment with a common visible event when combining evidence. Keep original media and reader observations when investigating a close finish or missed read.

Troubleshoot by layer

If there is no picture, test source/network/dependencies first. If picture is present but no useful detection appears, check bib visibility, enrollment and analysis settings. If observations exist but results are wrong, inspect assignment and review/publish state. Avoid treating a stream reconnect as proof that existing observations have been reprocessed.
