Xbox / USB joystick setup

Open NDI camera joystick, choose an NDI PTZ camera and Connect controls. Press a controller button if necessary for browser detection. A browser-reported standard gamepad automatically receives the Xbox / standard preset: left stick pan/tilt, right stick up/down zoom, and hold RT (right trigger) for movement. Enable USB movement with the sticks centered and RT released, then hold RT while moving. Releasing RT stops movement. The separate USB status shows camera connection, focus, neutral arming, hold-button detection and command dispatch; camera status reports actual control errors. Sending commands does not prove the camera moved.

With USB movement enabled, pull LT to open the quick camera window. Use the left stick or D-pad to highlight a camera and A to select/connect it, or B to cancel. Touch/click a camera row also selects it. The window lists directly configured NDI PTZ cameras, keeps names free of IP addresses, and pauses movement while open. Confirming a camera retains USB enablement; center sticks and release RT before holding RT to move that camera. The picker does not change Preview or Program. An LT held while detecting/reconnecting the controller must be released before opening the picker.

With USB movement enabled and the picker closed, press Y to cut the selected joystick camera’s mapped scene directly to Program. RT is required for movement only. Y sends one cut per press, requires a fresh release after focus/camera changes, and does not retarget the joystick or change Preview. OBS must be connected and the mapped scene must exist.

Live axes and pressed button indices identify custom mappings. A controller without the standard mapping is left in custom mode (zoom disabled initially); configure the shown indices and invert directions as needed. Axis −1 disables an axis. A non-centering throttle used as zoom prevents arming: disable that axis or select a centered stick. Missing/invalid mapped axes or hold buttons produce an explanation. Changes to mapping, explicitly selected controller, camera via the normal camera cards, or STOP disable USB movement and require enabling again. Focus changes, transient USB disappearance and network/status interruptions pause movement while retaining the USB selection and enabled preference. A different controller occupying the old device slot cannot take control automatically. A uniquely matching controller ID can follow an OS-assigned slot change without losing its mappings; ambiguous matches wait for explicit selection. Connecting an unrelated controller leaves the selected controller alone. Presets never automatically enable movement.

The standard preset uses button 7 (RT) for movement and button 6 (LT) for quick camera selection; checking Enable USB movement alone does not send movement. Standard layout reference: https://w3c.github.io/gamepad/#remapping . Verify low-speed directions on the actual camera before live use. Physical controller/native Mac/NDI hardware require target-system testing.
