Install applications on Ubuntu / Linux
A practical installation sequence, including X11 kiosk requirements and dependency failures.
Check the computer first
These packages target a graphical Linux desktop. Apt-based installers are intended for supported Ubuntu-style environments; the package's own README states its requirements. Kiosk switching relies on X11/Xorg support. If the sign-in screen offers session choices, choose the supported Xorg session before evaluating fullscreen switching. Wayland and a headless terminal are not interchangeable with the supported desktop setup.
Install the package
- Download the correct application ZIP and extract it completely. Use one directory per application.
- Prefer installation through an unlocked Workstation Application directory. For an independent install, open Terminal in the extracted application folder and follow its README. Where supplied, the standard installer is
bash install-linux.sh. - Let dependency installation complete. Preserve the first useful error if the installer stops. A browser window opening does not prove OBS, NDI or recording plugins were installed successfully.
- Launch using the supplied launcher as the desktop user. Complete account verification, then configure the actual device or Hub assignment.
- Test desktop operation first, followed by kiosk mode, touch, keyboard and screen layout.
If setup fails
Check available disk space, internet access and the exact failing dependency. Do not solve file permissions by running the application permanently as root. If a previous installation exists, use Workstation's installation details or the application's supported update/repair route rather than copying selected files between releases. For NDI, verify the runtime, OBS plugin and discovery independently.
Confirm success
The app opens, the correct version appears, account access verifies and the required camera/audio/Hub function works. Reboot and retest only if startup or kiosk behavior is part of the planned deployment.
