Race Timing System: NDI
Operational reference for ndi in Race Timing System.
NDI
NDI uses an optional native receiver through ndi-python, rather than assuming an ordinary FFmpeg build contains NDI support. Install a compatible binding/runtime on the timing computer, then restart the timing application. The upstream package documents supported platforms and source-build instructions:
https://github.com/buresu/ndi-python https://docs.ndi.video/all/faq/sdk/using-ffmpeg-with-ndi
python3 -m pip install ndi-python
As documented upstream when this build was produced, current prebuilt wheels target Python 3.10–3.14 on Windows x64, macOS arm64 13+ and supported Linux architectures. The timing application itself remains Python 3.9+; an incompatible system needs an appropriate source build/runtime or a supported receiver machine. Linux NDI source discovery relies on Avahi; NDI|HX decoding also needs compatible codec/runtime libraries. These dependencies are not bundled or installed automatically.
Press Discover NDI sources, select the advertised source, or enter its exact source name. Discovery is bounded; missing sources/runtime and absent video produce explicit errors. NDI receiver-owned pixels are copied before the video buffer is freed, and native finder/receiver resources are released when capture stops. Audio and metadata frames are discarded/freed; this workflow detects video bibs only. It does not yet configure NDI discovery servers or source groups through the GUI.
