Single Camera Kiosk: Placement and calibration

Operational reference for placement and calibration in Single Camera Kiosk.

Placement and calibration

Assumed minimum installation: 10 feet high and 10 feet back from the sideline. Start with a wide preset that shows the playing area, excluding the spectator area as much as possible. Check pan/tilt signs and camera autofocus before enabling AI. Store the configured wide preset; enable AI only after approving the picture, directions and fallback. Starting AI recalls that wide preset.

Enter the image ROI (left/top/right/bottom, normalized 0–1) to exclude seating and unrelated activity. These coordinates are an image-selection region, not physical pan/tilt stops; use camera limits for mechanical boundaries. Mounting height/backset alone does not determine visibility: lens angle, camera tilt, court/field width, players and the far-side ball pixel size must be checked. Avoid excessive zoom; AI does not automatically zoom in.

Tracking weighs moving people, gives priority to a confident sports ball near a player, and otherwise frames the player group. If detections disappear, movement stops; after three seconds it recalls the wide preset once. If the analysis feed becomes unavailable, movement stops and does not blind-pan. Ball identification is a generic sports-ball class, not a guaranteed sport classifier. Occlusion, tiny distant balls, motion blur and crowd activity can defeat tracking.

Manual movement uses capped 450ms pulses, and pauses AI for 15 seconds. The Stop button stops motion; Turn tracking off also disables inference. Autostop commands are best-effort network/serial commands and cannot guarantee a camera stopped during a communications failure; retain physical camera/operator controls.

AI does not start automatically after reboot. It stops on stream end, sign-out, ended events and production truck takeover. The truck takes priority over kiosk PTZ/AI; it must explicitly release its camera use before kiosk tracking can be enabled again.
